About Me

My Inspiration

Paintings and works on paper

Ever since growing up in Zurich and Geneva Switzerland, surrounded by art galleries, jewelers, and artist studios, I have been drawn to painting and creating jewelry. As a museum lover and avid student of art history, I have had many influences from all periods, from cave drawings to today’s living artists.

My interest in biology led me to a career as a biomedical scientist. Both the cognitive and visual beauty of science, are inspiration for many of my paintings. They spark the initial idea, but then the subconscious drives the design and choice of colors. Most of my works are in acrylic with lots of texture, but I also love works on paper. I hope that the viewer will find something intriguing, pleasing, calming or stimulating in my pictures.

Jewelry

My jewelry is informal, playful and draws attention to the wearer.  I use Sterling or fine silver, gold, or a combination of silver and copper. Often, the centerpiece is a natural precious or semi-precious stone or a small rock found on the beach or in the mountains. Each piece is unique, fabricated in my studio in Newport Beach, California or cast by me at the Irvine Fine Arts Center. Having spent much of my life at a lab bench or planning Scientific Research, I approach each piece of jewelry like a creative experiment. I’ll never find joy in a routine of production.

I admire and strive for the elegant simplicity of Japanese and Scandinavian, as well as ancient archeological designs, but often can’t resist to add a flourish from nature, such as a cast sea shell or succulent bud.
